Very interesting sounding project. I'd just started using StyleBuilder on WinXP trying to figure out how to port some themes over to KDE (very excited about the kthememanager) when I started reading a how-to on Kwin...ouch.

I'll try keeping an eye out for your project!

this is the final purpose of akdc, let you make kwin themes very easily just like windowblinds do on windows but result is at least 3 or 4 times more efficient and without code for custom goddies.

so if want port some theme urgently send me the pixmaps and a screenshot to jrch99@cantv.net, or wait until rc2 ready so you can do it by yourself ;-)

P.D the rc2 will come with a very nice guide and howto's

thanks

Sounds good, I've been pulling down plenty of themes, but I'd definately like to learn this system myself. I'll keep checking your site.

Thanks.

I have been trying to install for about a week. How do I install it? When I run ./configure and make I get a host of errors. I'm using Mandrake 10. As far as I know I have all the development packages installed.

hi, please send me the compilation dump to jrch99@cantv.net (that means copy the text to the konsole to kwrite, save it and send it to me)to see what's happens with mandrake

thanks

I had it compiled on mdk 10.0 with no tweaks whatsoever.
I compiled it with kde 3.2 from stock mdk, kde3.2.3 rpms from ftp.kde.org and kde3.2.92 rpms (from club.contrib iirc).
It works and compile with all of them. I went back to kde3.2 from mandrake since some plf apps dont work with the other rpms.

And don't forget the resizing of those title bars! Those Luna bars are good looking but huge.

Original Luna has large title bars too. So its cool imho.

I like your designs there, but I like the ability to easily create kwin themes better. Keep it up.
On FC2 x86, all four themes crashed like the above mentioned. Interesting though on an x86_64 running SuSE 9.1, everything works fine. FC2 was KDE 3.2.3 and SuSE 9.1 is KDE 3.3.

stock Suse 9.1 is kde 3.2.1

but you've got no instructions or readme file in your package, no little noddy guide on this kdelook entry... I opened a terminal in the directory created after unpacking your archive (why the heck you've included the entire path from /home onward escapes me), but after hassled with ./configure in getting all the includes and devel headers loaded in, it could finish ./configure with the message "Good - your configure finished. Start make now"... I did a make and got no obvious to me error messages, then su'd and did make install...

after all this, I logged out and then back into kde and then opened up control centre and can't for the life of me find an entry for your "control centre"...

so what did I do wrong?

you must use ./configure --prefix=your kde path in suse is /opt/kde3

Report

paulcooke

cheers...

that was (as far as I'm concerned) _not_ obvious...

for the benefit of others following who may be just as clueless... ;)

./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3
make
su
make install
libtool --finish /u sr/local/kde/lib/kde3

I've now got corona and luna metallic up and running... Brill, and the commands are in my bash history for doing the others :)

Now how can I easily make the rpm files (for suse 9.1) to save others the hassle of installing all the development headers etc ? :)

and would it be possible for the configure script to work out for itself where kde is??? I mean, all it would have to do would be to search in some sensible locations for a particular key kde file

Wooohooo... You must have a 24" Monitor or Xinerama screen with one monitor on top of the other.

At least the config dialog for the decoration does not fit on my 1280x1024 TFT.

Corona worked one time and crashes ever since when I try to open kcmshell kwindecortion alone or through kcontrol.
nvidia, lunamet and luna work great and dont crash at all.
I had the previous nvidia installed, so maybe a conflict?

For the name, I'm not english but i believe the name ASS K could be interpreted in very unexpected ways. At least, name it KASS, it sounds better and can stand for KickASS project.
Which is what it is. Great Job!

Luna & Corona crashes kwin & control center here. Luna Metal works fine.

The option 'Draw grab bars below window' seems to be the reason for the crashes in kcontrol. If this option is deactivated, it workes fine here. So edit ~/.kde/share/config/kwincoronarc and change 'LargeGrabBars' to 'false' to fix the crashes.

confirmed.
I came back here to tell people to remove .kde/share/config/kwincoronarc but you were one step ahead already. Nice job.
