Description:

What is it?
Colibri provides an alternative to KDE4 Plasma notifications.

Colibri notifications look lighter and are completely passive: they do not provide any buttons. You may or may not like this.

Since they are completely passive, they smoothly fade away when you mouse over them, allowing you to interact with any window behind them.

They also do not stack each others: if multiple notifications happen, they will be shown one at a time.

Dependencies

You need kdelibs >= 4.4.

Setup
Colibri can be configured from its System Settings module.
If you need help follow the setup howto at http://gitorious.org/colibri/pages/SetupHowto.

A bit of history

Passive notifications for Plasma first appeared as "Ayatana notifications", an alternative notification system I implemented in Kubuntu Karmic as part of my work for Canonical.

Ayatana notifications were implemented as a patch against the systemtray applet. Colibri is based on this work, but does not require patching any applet.

Colibri contains code I wrote for Canonical, but it is not a Canonical product.

It is possible to make Colibri not beign shown while watching a movie? It's a little bit annoying to see the notification bubble while you're trying to concentrate on the action.

Colibri does not have control over this. It is up to the media player to inhibit notifications (kdelibs provides the necessary tools to do so).

So there's no posibility - for example - to hide Colibri notifications while watching a movie with SMPlayer? In Ubuntu the notifications were hidden everytime when an application was running in fullscreen mode

Interesting. I need to check notify-osd code then.

Hm, I guess I should check the repos *before* compiling the stuff myself ^^...
But hey at least I have learned how to create a package via checkinstall.

Hi,

I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 with KDE 4.5.1.

After installing, I have unchecked the “Application notifications” box and started Colibri by typing "colibri" in terminal. It works fine, but I'd like to configure it (for example in which corner the notifications should be shown).

The problem is, that no configuration-entry appears in the "Application and System Notifications" section of the system-settings. Is there a file or something to configure it?

...After restarting everything is all right. Now there is a entry in the system-settings. Sorry.

yeah you have to run kbuildsycoca4 after installing it (from sources) to get kde to search for new components.

When I activate Colibri, it show all notifications - that don't need any actions and that wait the action.

How I can split this - show via Colibri only notifications that don't have buttons and don't need the action? For example, Kopete notifications have buttons "View" and "Ignore" and I want that this messages stay at the desktop until I click on it, but other (Amarok next track title, etc) - show via colibri and hides automatically.
How I can do this?

yea this will be cool... notifications about kopete to freeze and not to disapear until you click and if there appear new notification the old will move down or left... o lot of dreams and ideas but i can't write even html :D

It is not possible to do this. What you can do for Kopete is to use the message-indicator plugin [1] together with the message-indicator Plasma widget [2].

Thanks for idea, I try this. But this problem is not only with kopete, but with some other software (that didn't support by message indicator) too.
Maybe for solve this you can add feature to Colibri for don't autohide messages that have the buttons and wait to user action?

Hey!
I like colibri very much and I use it every day since a few month. Now I changed to KDE 4.5 and I noticed, that colibri uses a lot of memory. Now, after 12 hours colibri uses 130MB of memory and so I think this is a bug. Any ideas?

Best regards!

That's weird. Do you see the usage going up during the day or is it a fixed amount?

Report

FSchulz

Sorry for the late answer. Mmmh... it goes up over the day. I think the usage of a messenger (kopete) increases the amount. Now it uses 61 MB, but today I didn't chat a lot.
