Description:

Aloha!

I am interested in hearing what you fellow Konq users think about this feature:

I am very happy with the function and speed of the search field in Kmail. It works very well for me. You type in a keyword and emails are filtered according to it, providing quick access and powerful instant and temporary "grouping" of emails.

But I am not very happy with the "Find file..." function of Konq, the killer app most of my desktop usage relies on. You have to open the search window, use * and ? and so on to specify the filenames. It does not feel efficient. So I wonder, do you think it would be possible/favourable to import the Kmail search field design to Konq and have a small search field much like the Google-field? With small buttons to make the file-system search recursive or system-wide. I know I would love that.

What do you think?

[2004-11-14] CONCEPT SCREENSHOT HAS BEEN UPDATED!
[2004-11-14] IT IS NOW POSSIBLE TO VOTE FOR THIS FEATURE OVER AT bugs.kde.org.

Please visit: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93236 to vote. And post links to this page and the voting page on your favorite user forum to spread the interest in this feature!

PS. I can not find any special KDE-related forum/mailing-list set up for feature requests. I can think of no better site than this for that. Maybe there should be a Kwishlist section here on kde-apps? DS

That is exactly what I am looking. Though, I want to have it in a separate search field and not have to type "locate: whatever", just "whatever" :-)

So - why recreate the wheel? I'm certain the kio_locate people would appreciate the suggestion. It's just another text widget (the difficult part) that would automatically prepend locate:// (the easy part) that would contact their kio_locate slave.

I'd love this extra functionality, too. I had been debating contacting the kio_locate people to see if they could alias "find://" for "locate://"... fewer keystrokes :) But a seperate widget would be wonderful (heck - why not go all out and include a drop down icon - like in firefox - where you could choose "local" or "google" or "altavista" or whichever!)

I run Konq 3.3.0 and can not find it anywhere. The "Google-field" with web shortcuts, while highly configurable, does not provide this as far as I can see.

Really? I can't find one. Are you referring to the Google search? The author meant a field to search for files.

A good idea, but it should have an option to be enabled/disabled.
