Description:

This is an idea I have had for a while for a new iconview for konqueror.
I know the mockup is purely made, but my gimp skills can be in an extremly small space.

The idea is that the file is shown with (bold) filename, meta-infomation and a preview if any, should be used as the icon.

As yellow background colour is for making it easier to separate the files from one another. (The edges should be rounded)
I've only make one file in the mockup, but there should be a 10px space between each file. Also the files should align horizontally, the rows and columns should be evenly spaced so the files doesn't look jumpled, like normal iconview.

Guess thats it so far.

this looks like the "tile view" from Windows XP. Not that there's anything wrong with that. This is definitely more robust.

Indeed it does, I'd not noticed that before now :) But that is one of the better things about Windows XP, have to say...

It provides extremely high level of information in relatively little space. It gives a good size preview of the file (for previewable files), and as much, if not more (visible) information as the detailed view.

Also, to mabs, I do like your choice in widget style and icon set ;)

Lets just say I did have some inspiration.

Thanks me to ;-)

hoe many different views do we need!?

colum views are easy for comarison/sorting

thumbnail views are easy for mass previewing

the tool-tip that shows in konq gives you all the info you so barely 'need'

sorry i dont see the gap this new view is closing.

It closes the gap I find when looking for this mode that I used to like in Nautilus, but which is missing in Konqi ;) I know that the "everybody else does it" argument doesn't work, but since more people seem to like it, hell why not :)

(I might add, I only used Nautilis a week or so because a friend refused to install KDE on his machine, due to being a rather insistent gnomer ;) )

would be really a nice idea, but there should also be a function to turn back to the default mode

The idea wasn't to replace the existing iconviews (iconview and multicolumniconview) but meerly to add a third option ;-) So changing back wouldn't be a problem.

this is imho a great idea. at least there should be more info in the normal view.

and then maybe a kind of a live search function in the konqi window, which narrows down to a file very fast (eg choose a certain size range, filetype, name) ;-)

just like the find-file function...
