Description:

Victory is a bright, flat, and minimalist theme. This theme was made using, and primarily for use on, Xubuntu and Lubuntu 16.04 thru 18.04, but should work fine with any XFCE/LXDE-based distro. Gtk3 elements should work on Gtk 3.18 (Ubuntu 16.04) and above. Even though a Gtk3 theme is provided, I have not tested it on Gnome3, so please report issues. As of the 18.07 release, Gtk3 theming has become the primary focus, and as of this release, all Gtk3 elements should be themed correctly. I've also included variant borders and styles for Openbox and XFWM, as well as a notification theme for XFCE. Again, please let me know if anyone has any problems, thoughts, constructive criticisms, etc.

Thanks again everyone... I really appreciate all the feedback, votes, and comments!

I have also recently set up Patreon and Liberapay pages for those interested in supporting my work, and any contributions are greatly appreciated:

Thanks!

++ Installing ++

To install, downloaded the tar.gz, open it and extract the folder of your preferred theme into your ~/.themes folder (if your home directoy does not have a .themes folder, create one). Then open your desktops Appearance Manager to select the theme.

+ Appearance Managers

- XFCE: xfce4-appearance-settings (for Theme/Controls)
- XFCE: xfwm4-settings (for Window Border)

- LXDE: lxappearance (for Theme/Controls)
- LXDE/Openbox: obconf (for Window Border)

+ Theme Directory is located at /home/USERNAME/.themes

----------------------------------------------------------

++ Configure ++

You can modify the colors and change some styles in the /home/USERNAME/.themes/victory-gtk-theme/gtk-3.20/gtk.css file. Open that file and you can change the colors. At the bottom you can uncomment lines for various custom styles that will affect certain applications or parts of the theme (more styles to be added later). The picture for this theme is using Thunar, for example, with the thunar custom view line uncommented. This removes the back/forward/home buttons from thunar and makes the location bar take up all the space.

----------------------------------------------------------

++ Credits ++

In the first preview image I am using the Victory Icon Theme and the wallpaper Flow by tri5tian here on this site. Icons used in the second image (temporarily removed until I have time to re-add the color variants after the 18.07 release) include Boston icons, Arc icons, Papirus icons, Breeze icons.

Absolutely great theme. But is it just me or are these lines:

GtkTreeView::odd-row-color = shade (0.97, @bg_color)

GtkTreeView::odd-row-color = shade (0.96, @selected_bg_color)

really wrong?
I'm getting errors when starting programs using a TreeView (in a terminal).
I just commented them out and it works fine (looks just like before, with odd and even rows in different colors, but no errors).

Thanks! Glad you liked it.

I'm not sure about the error though . Can you give me an example of something I could start in the terminal to show that? I don't get it when starting totem or nautilus in treeview.

Thanks for the help.

Sure can.
Try opening VLC and then the open-dialog, this should do the trick (the TreeView was just a guess, because that was where I first realized it and well its how the the line in gtkrc is called ;) ).
I hope that helps.

Sorry DerDot... I can't get the same error any way I try.

Maybe if you post more info like murrine engine version, gnome version, distro, error line, etc... maybe someone else had a similar problem and could help.

I know you already solved it by changing those lines... but they shouldn't be a problem.

Try the new release of the theme. I doubt it will change anything... but it's worth a try I guess.

Sorry I can't do more! Maybe we can figure out what's behind it though.

This theme is quite nice. I like the simplistic breadcrumbs and the colour scheme is nice. My only qualm is that it is perhaps a bit bright, but other than that it is very nice. :)

Thanks, I appreciate it.

It is a little bright. It was originally a little darker... but I tried it on a few different monitors, and it seemed more dull/dark on the others than it did mine... so I made it brighter. I just figure, better bright than dull... and it's easily changeable, I guess.

Anyway, thanks again. And I hope you got the breadcrumbs working for your theme - I sent you a message. I remember having that problem, but don't know how I fixed it, and I wouldn't be able to remember without seeing the gtkrc.

The one thing that I'd like, is a slightly differing hover on color for active window close buttons. Theres a great contrast on the maximize and minimize, but hardly any change on the close. either a brighter red on hover, or an outline circle or something.

Yeah, I'd thought about that before. I actually only meant for that border to be a placeholder until people found a nicer window border, ha.

Anyway, I changed it a little for this update. Let me know if that's enough or if it needs more.

Thanks for the advice - let me know if you have any more.

Hey, cool theme I love it! The OOo question - where is this "Options > OpenOffice" thing? I have no scroll bars in OOo with my linux mint.

OMG, I'm sorry for spam. I was refreshing the page and apparently my last post got posted 2 times more. How do I delete it?

:)

I don't think you can delete, haha.

Sorry, I should make it more clear in the description. After you install the theme it will be in:

/home/YOURNAME/.themes/Victory/

So, in your themes folder, then in the Victory or Victory Elementary folder.

Let me know if this helps or if you need anything else.

Hey, it kinda helped. I ran the script twice - first without the check and than with check box. Now the scrolls aren't transparent anymore but i still can't grab them. Anyway I love the theme and just can't wait to see where it goes!

cheers

Glad you got it half way working at least! I'm not sure why you can't grab them, though. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and it seems to work for me - but maybe someone else had the same problem as you and could help? Any extra info... What version of OpenOffice are you using, and dist of Linux, etc?

You need to be using nautilus elementary

This will help:

i got it sorted out. I had nautilus elementary, but I had a different bread crumb mod. had to rearrange things a bit in the gtk2 file.

Glad you figured it out. Further back in the comments, someone else was having a problem with the breadcrumbs. The user FINux - he posted a picture.

Anyway, I couldn't help him... but he might have the same problem that you had. Maybe you could help him out?

It's just a suggestion, so don't worry too much about it, you didn't do anything wrong. It's just talking about the icon theme:
