Ubuntu Dust
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
Dust is a concept for a new, refreshing look for Ubuntu. The idea was to take the defining aesthetic elements of Ubuntu and remix it into something clean, modern, functional, and unique.
It's a new take on the Ubuntu aesthetic using a dark palette and subtle colors.

New Scrollbar = ugly.
Sep 14 is definitely the most usable release so far (I dislike current toolbar as well)

Dark toolbars are really ugly. Please consider a "light-toolbar" hack for Eclipse - if possible - as well.
Anyways, I really like Dust!

Enough of the critisism, I must say that this is one of the most professional looking themes for GTK, good work!

the brown does not look bad in this one, but a color-neutral version would be even better. no color, no danger of interfering with something else on your screen.
anyway, i like dust, it has a future!

the theme is color-adjustable (metacity, GTK AFAIK)
but the: minimize, maximize, and close buttons aren't color-aware, but it's not that difficult to use GIMP to do this yourself. But for ease of use, it would be nice to have colorless mouse-over effects.
----
the one problem that I had is the theme needs an all dusty dark brown theme because when I adjusted the theme light colors to the dark brown and I could no longer read the text on the menus. (I could read through the file but it would be nice to have a dark version of this theme)
Anyways I really like the default and I always prefer cool coffee colored themes over ugly orange ones.

Try having a translucent dropdown menu in Compiz. This'll make it look good I promise ;)

However, I don't think it will be a wise choice for the default theme in Intrepid. It is dark, and it is too dark. When makinga default theme for a distribution that prides itself with being for the masses - for everyone, these niche-tendencies does not work.
I believe in the lighter themes, when it comes to Ubuntu. All these dark and even more dark trends has made me worry about the final outcome. In my case, I don't see particulary well - which means that I won't be able to use this for very long periods of time.
And I'm just one person. Imagine all those other people, individuals who won't be able to use a dark theme productively. Of course, one can always change the theme into one with more contrast - but should one really need to, with Ubuntu? When it's for human beings, it's for all human beings.
