Description:

Dust is a concept for a new, refreshing look for Ubuntu. The idea was to take the defining aesthetic elements of Ubuntu and remix it into something clean, modern, functional, and unique.

It's a new take on the Ubuntu aesthetic using a dark palette and subtle colors.

I registered just to say this:

I think this is perhaps one of the most well designed Ubuntu theme concepts I have seen. I certainly hope this gets adopted as a new default.

Very Nice theme! I have 3 problems though:
1) My firefox tabs are not rendering right and
2) It is not as dark as it should be in areas
3) Are the Icons in the screenshot supposed to come with it? If so, I didnt not see them.

Hi, you're theme is the best, you're doing great! But I noticed a bug using qgtkstyle and qt4.4 to integrate qt apps in gnome and make them look like the gtk theme you're using: with the dust theme, I can't read the entries in the toolbar (i.e. "file, help, tools" etc.). Sorry no photo of this but you can easily make a test. I'd like qt apps to share the Dust theme of my desktop, I'don't even know if it's a qgtkstyle bug or it's a bug in your theme, but I wanted you to be aware of this, because I think that integration between gtk and qt is the future..

I've corrected this bug by replacing «text[NORMAL] = mix (1.5, @fg_color, '#ffffff')» with «text[NORMAL] = mix (1.5, @fg_color, '#000000')» in «widget_class "*.<GtkComboBox>.<GtkCellView>" style "murrine-text-is-fg-color-workaround"».

Personally I feel it would be more intuitive to invert the coloring of the active and inactive tabs.

Active Tab: Light background, Dark lettering
Inactive Tabs: Dark background, Light lettering

Just my opinion - does anyone else feel this way?

This seems like it will put too much undue emphasis on the inactive tabs.

Since the whole theme is dark, the light tabs are the ones that stick out to me. I feel like since the toolbars and menu are all dark, the dark tabs blend in while the light tabs stick out.

But if you don't agree, no worries. Just thought I would suggest it and see what happens :)

i rated it good. i am very very choosy when it comes to themes and this is the best i have ever seen on linux. please continue the work on this theme. it rocks!

beautiful theme, got two questions:

- how do i center the window titles on window decorations?
- how do i change the text color on the menu bar buttons and the clock applet?

I love this theme - it has to be be the best one ever made. Pure class.
Just one question - can you provide a link to the wallpaper used in the first pic. It seems to work really well with the theme.

I just tried it a little bit and I think it's great. It's not easy to make/find good and usable dark themes.

Hey, great work!! I was wondering if there is a Emerald port of the metacity decorator. I use Compiz with the GTK decorator for now, but an Emerald port would be so much better.

Why would you want a port of it for a buggy outdated window decorator like Emerald, when gtk-window-decorator works just fine? :)

Please, understand that you are making a GNOME theme, not the Ubuntu theme.

GNOME is the desktop environment what is used in Ubuntu as desktop. When you make new theme for Ubuntu, you make it for GNOME.

Be advised that you should think all GNOME users (Linux, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris etc) and not just Ubuntu distribution users of Linux operating system.

I understand that the theme is usable in all Gnome installations, whether they be on Ubuntu, or any other Linux distribution, or even another OS.

However, the intended audience for the theme are Ubuntu users as it targets to be part of the community themes package of Ubuntu. This is more of a marketing move as this theme proposes to push the aesthetic branding of Ubuntu into a new direction.

just confirmed that is aimed at ubuntu when i tried to install on fedora 10 with latest murrine packages ;p

it loads up once you have installed Human themes and Murrine, but the panels/toolbar etc do not take effect,

havent pinpointed problem.. yet

hey guy,
uvuntu hardy already install murrine deb pacakge but the dust tar.gz must be corrupt.
It will not install with error calling
and it will not extract either.
let me know if there is alternative download link.

That new scrollbar is just awful. I mean, it's a big fat thing that spoils an otherwise pretty sleek theme. I'm using it now, but I had to delete the scrollbar folder entirely and modify the GTKRC to trim it down a la ClearGlow. Now it's good stuff.
