Description:

I had nothing better to do, so I created a very quick and clean wallpaper for myself. This was created with Maya + GIMP. If you are interested I have other (k)ubuntu wallpapers on my website. Please follow this link here: http://rmorg.org/random/ubuntuLogo/
Last changelog:

1.1 -- Uploaded a second image that does not have any text behind the glass. Unfortunatly I had overwritten the file that had all the light settings for the first image, so I had to start over with a few things. The camera is slightly moved and the colors are a little off of the first image. I may continue to make a few more variations as I do like the way the caustics look in the second image.

1.2 -- I found the scene file I was looking for on my laptop so I was able to render another image out that looks almost like the original without the text. I am going to take the previous image off and place it on my website only. You can go here: http://rmorg.org/random/ubuntuLogo/ if you would like to download any other versions of wallpaper I have created.

1.3 -- I uploaded a text version in widescreen format (1920x1200) and have also added one more style with a debian logo in the back instead of ubuntu text.

1.4 -- Added the other two 1920x1600 versions.

Wow, to make this with "maya and the Gimp"
because you had nothing better to do.
Is it like sometimes y' can't make anything in hours, but in other times you make something brilliant in a minute?
Or are you just a professional DTP'er.
Since uX get's more and more stable on the desktop, I surely want to know those teqniques also

Makeing the background pure white or a blue color. That would rock!

The glassified logo looks a bit like a candy dish, a coaster or an ashtray :) Very clean look, both easy on the eyes and attractive.

Thanks!

I just had another idea. If you could release a transparent one so we could set our own background color, that would be really cool.

I actually found the scene file I was looking for. I just uploaded the new "clean" image that looks more like the original render. I will mess around with a transparent version and see if I can obtain the same quality.

Yeah the second one definitely doesn't look as nice. Too bad you deleted the first one! Thanks anyways.

So I posted a second image without the text. I saved over the first image scene file on accident (oops), so I had to start over with some of the settings. I plan on tweaking the color and camera angle a bit to match the first image a bit more. Let me know what you think.

If only a kind soul out there did something like this for Gentoo. I'd do it myself but my skills are sadly lacking :o( Dear Santa Claus, I have been a very good boy this year and... ;o)
