why not make the wallpaper to other dimensions?
as 1280x800
sorry if write wrong, i do not speak English very well

well if yu don't wanna wait 4 me:
1.save the preview image which is half the size of the original[1250x800]
or
2.just download & resize the image and save as png file to keep the quality.
For this use gimp or if in windows irfanview or any other graphic program that can do that
