I cant really figure out how someone could feel offended by some work about christianism or about any other religion.
Dude, believe me, you have some unsolved trouble in your mind.
Even if you've written "no offense to christians", it clear it was your purpose so stop lying to people and to yourself.
...and Linux is connected to freedom, not to comunism! In this site there should be the freedom to post a work about any religion without being offended!
If the center of communism is work, why are you wasting your time behaving childishly here? Go back working!

You know, so what if Stalin killed a bunch of people, obviously none of them are important to your existence if you are reading this. No one can deny that he was an important historical figure. So just chill out. It's just a wall paper. In fact, repeat after me: It's just a wallpaper. It's just a wallpaper. *deep breath*Now doesnt that feel better?

This has (and will continue to be, I'm sure) a most entertaining read.

Steels, you have my respect for not being afraid to throw a proverbial Monkey Wrench into the machine. People need a good shock every now and then. Uncomfortable and extreme images are good for us, people need to be reminded of what a diverse (and oftentimes terrifying) experience reality is.

Now, on to the second reason for my post. I've noticed a lot of people are commenting on Communism, citing the sad fate of several Communist countries, and I must say I'm surprised that no one has pointed this out yet... I didn't think it was a secret. Ah well, here goes. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but none of those nations were Communist. old, China, USSR, Cuba, Vietnam (post-war), etc, are often mistaken for Communist nations, but they're not. They're Socialist. Stalin was a Socialist as well. It's what the S in USSR stands for. In fact, there has never been a truly Communist nation. Ever.

Socialism, you see, is the "transition" to full-blown Communism... hence the presence of a totalitarian monarchy. The monarch is intended to 'supervise' and 'remove' all unhealthy, greedy Capitalist sentiments from the people. Greed will cause a Communistic society to collapse, and it's also the reason that no one's ever made it past Socialism.

A notable few of these monarchs have been a bit over-zealous in their "Re-Education" process.

That said, Stalin (among others) did many, many terrible things. I don't condone his actions, and neither should any intelligent person.

As to whether Linux is Communistic or not... it's true, several distributions are sold for a hefty profit. Most of those distributions contain commercial, closed-source software (NVidia drivers and such)... it's hard to judge Linux in and of itself. Open Source software in general, on the other hand, does follow a lot of the same ideas as are presented in the Communist Manifesto. Let's not forget that "Communism" derives from "Community," or, more specifically "Commune."

The prefix 'com' transletes from Latin as 'together.'

'Mune,' the suffix, comes directly from the Latin 'munus,' which is literally a gift of obligation given by a citizen. A tribute.

So commune means "Giving Together" ... sounds like Open-Source to me.

Of course, all this is just semantics. We could argue about software politics all day. I'm not a Communist, but I know what one is, Stalin was not one, and Open Source software may very well be. What's wrong with that? That concludes this lecture.

As for the religious clash... this is abhorrent to my sensibilities. Faith is one of the most important things we as humans possess... what one chooses to place said faith in is a completely personal decision and one only that individual can make. I don't hate religion, religion is necessary for many, many people, myself included. Organized religion has its place as well, though it doesn't really appeal to me. I can't criticize anyone for having faith.

I don't think I was subjected to the "flood" of Christian iconography that was mentioned earlier in this thread... "Let's annoy them until they convert. That's a reliable method, and not dishonest at all!" As tolerant as I am, I've never understood the need to sell salvation to the masses like so many bars of soap. I do much better seeking salvation myself.

Wow. Sorry for the long post. We've touched on some of my favourite subjects here. :)

Someone mention Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, or any of the potential Unified Field Theories and I'll happily post another novel. :)

Linux is NOT like comunism...
Probably you know much more about Marx than about Linux or software...
There are a lot of Companies that make money (a LOT of money) selling Linux (Lindows? Red Hat?).
The FREE concept in opensource concern the possibility of ANYONE to access the KNOWLEDGE behind software and OS, perhaps in Comunism it's not so simple: people must WORK WORK WORK without any possibility to makes life better than a PEASANT.
In Comunism you are a SLAVE of the system.

Why in the world is Linux equated with communism? It's free. So what? I can go to McDonalds and get free drinking water. I guess McDonalds/America is communistic. Or not. Linux is "free as in free beer", not communistic.

Anyway, in basically all places where communism has/is florished, most people lived/are-living in poverty. Take Cuba, for instance. For the majority of people in Cuba, life sucks. That's why so many people try to escape from there. I would like somebody to give me a country where communism is actually working, and most people like living there. Oh please, DON'T give me China as an example. The majority of people there are not happy.

let me explain to your first.
When you say ppl in cuba or china are living unhappy you probably mean unhappier then in the usa or where you live. The first world.
But the first world wouldnt be ablr to live like we live without the third world.
That is, without all these poor underdeveloped nations, where people live definatly worse than in china or cuba, we couldnt sustain or rich lifestyle, for that, all these nations are actually a part of us.

What I dafinately hate most in this world are lies.
So if capitalist would defend themselves with the argument that its only possible to have a rich society with another poor one working in almost slavery for them, then I wouldnt bother. But we're all living like we aren't gulty of none of that crap happening in the 3rd world.

and, to respond to other posts, i aint no kid you silly motherfuckers.
I dont idolify saddam, but iraqs invasion was plain wrong and unjustified. Only because american corps. wanted iraqs oil.

I repeat, i dont admire stalin at all.
The best thing I could say about him is that he knew how to get a communist country's econmy running. But he killed lots of ppl, as far as I know more than hitler.
I coulda put Kommunist and a hammer an a sickle, but I put stalin cus it's way more radical.

btw, i'll delte that wallpaper soon cus its crap art actually.

Whenever a communist was a dictator and mass murderer these guys claim that this is not a real communist ;-)

Jeez, A little knowledge makes people sound very stupid.

Communism as defined by Marx - "the positive transcendence of private property, or human self-estrangement, and therefore the real appropriation of the human essence by and for man... the complete return of man to himself as a social being"

As defined by Engels - "The proletariat is that class in society which lives entirely from the sale of its labor and does not draw profit from any kind of capital;"

There is no real world example of communism for you to draw your conclusions by. USSR, China, Cuba nor N Korea are Communist as defined by Marx who is 'creator' of the Communist Ideology. I should also add that Stalin was not a 'Kommunist' either.

Now this is where I draw my similarities between Linux and Communism. Linux (the code not the trademark) is not own by own man or entity and there for transends private property and gives it existance to the community that fosters it. Secondly, most people who profit from the use of Linux do so by providing services or labor not by drawing profit from capital or should I say, selling Linux.

Now do you understand? Communism has nothing to do with getting free water at McDonalds...I'm sorry you thing that.

Report

johnkess

No, I would not say that I sound very stupid. Less educated then you (about communism), but not stupid.

If you are correct, my apologies. But I would just like to ask this question. How come a "true" communist state has not been established? If the idea would work so well, how come there's not a "true" communist nation that we can look at and say, "Wow, communism really works! Let's try to establish that in our country!"

Honestly, this is the place for Christian and Communist wallpapers. ALL art is an expression. I have my opinions about Stalin and those the have an affinity (forgive my spelling, I have no first language) with him, but art is art. I personnaly have a negative view towards ALL religions derived from any millenia old text (or sand script). But this is a forum for artful wallpaper. I would hate to have to look to Slackware.kde-look.org for Slackware themed wallpaper. Or to have people to need to goto specificly BSD.kde-look.org for BSD themed wallpaper. So as long as it is artful, it belongs here.

BTW, artful is very subjective and though I find this Stalin wallpaper destaneful (sp again), I find it to be artful. That other christian wallpaper that has since been removed was absolutely not artful but horribly ugly.
