Well I'm not sure if I are going to keep working on this, fed-up on the the gnome devs are changing the icon names every f*** time.

Also the gnome ***still*** have serious issues on stuff that might force me in to using KDE instead.

One of the best icon sets i've seen. So what if it was copied from osx or vista.. if it looks good thats all that matters

why use vista-like icons on folders, why not stick with the old blue ones, those looked a lot better, lets just say, i loved those folder-icons.

put it back to the old blue ones, matches the whole icon-theme to.

kind Regards MikeDK

Thats funny. I use to have some other folders blue/grey, but then people said that they did not like them... so.
How to pleasure them all ;)

the answer to that is you don't.

you design a icon theme to a set of guidelines *you* create and don't bend.

if the result isn't great... move on an start another project...don't corrupt an already existing theme for on the whim of a few people.

fork it instead!

I have to vote down because of copyright violation.

It seems that's the only way people will listen sometimes.

Hehe yeah right. Simply don't use the icons.

Anyhow it's only part of the icons that are from the OSX icon theme found here at gnome-look

Its true about all this "copying" from OSX or Vista whatever, but until you come out with icons that look as good or better, myself and others will continue to support and download icon sets like these. I'm new to Linux so I'm liking everything "pretty", and Icons have always been important eye-candy for me.

No, it's very simple. People in the foss community are always talking about freedom this and freedom that and how we should worship the GPL. If you really want to be free this stupid copying has to stop. You can't just copy proprietary icons and put them up here saying they're released under the GPL, it simply doesn't work that way. If you want companies/organizations to respect the GPL you have to in turn respect their copyright. And if you're looking for a beautiful icon theme, here's one. It's a clean, well designed, original theme. http://www.silvestre.com.ar/?p=108

... and a blatant one at that.

Several of the icons are directly ripped from OS X and as of such they can't be redistributed and this theme is certainly not possible to legally redistribute as "GPL".

There is nothing wrong with creating a theme that has the look & feel of OS X, but you can't simply reuse the OS X icons without permission.

The author (and GNOME-LOOK) is leaving themselves open to lawsuits here.

I am marking this as "bad" because the use of the Microsoft Office, and Adobe Illustrator icons for OpenOffice and Inkscape is a bad choice. Their proprietary artwork doesn't belong on opensource software. But then again this is an icon set copying a proprietary theme.

Its just dumb to put a Word icon on OpenOffice is what I was trying to say. It's like putting a Ford emblem on your Cadillac. They are both cars, but that's not what it is.

OSX is old-hat. Linux needs more original themes.

I second this idea. I really don't like how every theme these days is either Vista or OS X. We need more original themes that look good.

well, yes I do agree. Still this icon theme is not only OSX. it's more of a mix of all kinds of icon themes.

Anyhow. yes the linux world need a good icon setting, not like the ubuntu or redhat etc,etc
