I fixed the overlap on my laptop but it is a quick and ugly fix :D

as root open up /usr/share/gdm/themes/GPerfection/GPerfection-Greeter.xml

Find the section for the gperfection.png as below:
item type="pixmap"
normal file="gperfection.png"/
pos anchor="c" x="50%" y="60%"/
/item

change the value for y until you find the one that works for your resoulution.

This is really only moving the background up and down till it fits the icons.

I am working on the icon and login placement, but haven't got it right yet.

AGAIN - THIS IS AN UGLY FIX :D

I really like this GDM theme, but I am seeing this overlap too.
1400x1050 laptop Compaq nc6000
Ubuntu 5.04 HP laptop build
simple fix?
