Description:

Plastikfox is a theme for Mozilla Firefox to make it have the same look as the KDE programs with the Plastik style and the Crystal SVG 1.0 icon set.

ABOUT THE OK AND CANCEL BUTTONS: Firefox 1.5 doesn't have OK and Cancel buttons anymore in the Options dialog but it's possible to enable them again. Just write "about:config" in the address bar, search for the key "browser.preferences.instantApply" and set it to false. The OK and Cancel buttons should be there back again.

BUTTON ORDER: You can reverse the button order in the dialog boxes so they are like in the other KDE applications. Simply click "Reverse button order" to install a patch to activate this feature.

COLOR SCHEME: Plastikfox doesn't follow the KDE color scheme. Remember it's just a theme for Firefox, so it's impossible to do it. It's made with the 'Plastik' color scheme. If you want to change the color scheme you'll have to modify the theme manually. :(

Thanks to Everaldo for his Crystal SVG icon sets. You can get them at:

HOW TO INSTALL
-------------------------------------

If you have an older version of the theme, uninstall it before installing a new one.

· Extract the files anywhere you want
· Open the install.html file in Firefox (you don't need to be 'root')
· Click the "Install" button
· Accept when it prompts for the theme installation
· 'Tools' menu - Themes
· Select 'Plastikfox Crystal SVG' and click 'Use this theme'
· Restart Firefox (VERY IMPORTANT!)
· Enjoy!

If you want, you may delete the downloaded files once the theme is installed.

It's caused by the way Mozilla/Firefox handles the tab properties. The tabs' look rely on those properties. When you open a new tab, Firefox doesn't update the properties of the previous one and that's why this effect appears. When you select one of the near tabs, Firefox updates its properties and so it's displayed correctly. I don't know very well how to fix that. :( There should be some way to force Firefox to update their properties, but I don't know how.

I just noticed that the "all downloads have been completed" dialog box is unthemed.

Are you planning on fixing it with the next release? :)

Yes, I'll fix it in the next release. And it's going to be out soon.

Is this (or any other "plastik" theme appliable to Thunderbird?

No, it doesn't. But I'll probably make a port of this theme for Thunderbird. Keep an eye on kde-look.org. ;)

but if tou use the "Tabbrowser extensions", the tabs look very strange. Please fix that, I like that extension =P

Right now Plastikfox isn't compatible with the tabbrowser extensions. I've taken a look at it, but there isn't an easy sollution. Tabbrowser extensions override what I say in the theme and I think I'm going to have to create a patch for the tabbrowser extensions so they don't override that and they work with Plastikfox.

well, the theme is still very nice. I rather use the theme than the extension, and that's one of my favorite extension.

love theme! (fit with other programs =))

ON Mdk 10 kde frezzes when ~/.gtk-2.0 file has -> gtk-theme-name = "Qt"
I have to comment, start kde and then put this line again to works, it works fine but this little issue is bad

There's no need to use GtkQt to make Plastikfox work. I haven't tested GtkQt yet, so I don't know if Plastikfox works with it. Anyway, it's something related to Firefox itself, not to this theme.

Hi,

Really cool theme! Thanks!

However, I haven't been able to get the anti-alising to work on the UI menus. I've searched lo and hi in the web and messed up my userchrome.css file countless times to no avail. Any solution and/or pointers to my issue?

Thanks in advance!

You might probably be using a version of Firefox without GTK2 and XFT support. Try with this one:

Thanks a bunch!

I didn't even know Firefox came pre-compiled with GTK! BTW, your theme kicks some serious butt!

I love it. This theme is great.

The only thing I wish that was different was the border between the edge of the screen and the scrollbar. It's easier to just move your mouse all the way over to the edge of the screen to manipulate the scrollbar than it is to actually position your mouse over it.

Also, can the scrollbar be themed like Plastik?

I take it this is only for version 0.7?
It certainly doesn't want to work to 0.8.

It's made for Firefox 0.8. There may be some kind of problem with your profile, I don't know. Try creating a new profile and installing the theme on it. If it works, go to ~/.phoenix/yourprofile/randomstring.slt/chrome and move all the files to your old profile. If it doesn't work, come back here and we'll try to find another sollution.

Thanks for that. I was running 0.7 before so probably right about the profile. Anyway, I just hacked the html to take out the check and it worked perfectly.
Again, thanks for the info.

Great job!

One thing i noticed is that the new tab button looks really low res. But that could be just me with way too little sleep.

Good night,

Martin

It's true. I had to resize the new tab icon because in Crystal it's only available in 16x16 but not in 22x22 and 32x32. If someone could take the SVG files and make two PNGs with those sizes it would be very helpful. I don't know how to do it. :(

Awesome! Thanks for this theme. Makes Firefox so much more pleasing to the eye than the ugly default gtk look.

Thanks a lot, this theme is really good. I have only one problem, the "Opens a new tab" icon is too big to be placed near the "bookmarks toolbar". And the colour of the background for the bookmarks is too sharp I think.

And an addon to the theme check this url: http://www.badopi.org/node/view/220 , buttons can be also "plastificated" :)

Thanks & regards.

Thanks for porting this to firefox, it is an EXCELLENT theme. I know can keep my style without having to use konqueror. I can't wait to see when you get the individual site widgets themed.

Thanks a lot for this, it's wonderfull!!

A lot of people like me use plastik with no horizontal separator so it will be cool to have a 2d version of this theme.

To help a little bit, i'm trying to made it (based on your beta2), and if you want, it will be cool to had it in your theme, together with the separator version.

You mean horizontal separators between each toolbar? It's very easy to do. You can make a file called "userChrome.css" containing this:

toolbar {
  border-top: none;
}

And put it inside the directory "chrome" in your profile directory, together with the .jar file of the theme. I could add an installer for that userChrome.css in the index.html theme installer.

If you prefer directly modifying the theme, you should go to "global/toolbar.css" and you'll find it at the beggining.
